A little about me...
I am a 25 year-old mostly self-taught Scottish artist currently based in Melbourne, Australia. I have loved art from a very young age and always dreamed that it could one day be my full-time job. Aside from the occasional commission through word-of-mouth whilst I was in school, I started doing pet portrait commissions during the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020. This was the first time I saw the potential of a career in art. I love to bring the character and individuality of the pets I paint to life, and the joy that this brings the pets owner. For me, these paintings are about preserving connection and translating it into something lasting and tangible.
Since then, I have continued selling pet portraits as well as opening up my online shop to sell some paintings and prints of my own creation. Similarly to my animal portraiture, these artworks also have emotional value. I love to paint dramatic landscapes and the night sky where I invite the viewer to pause and become absorbed in the same way I am when I look at such scenery. I also like to paint surrealist-style astronauts to explore explore ideas of wonder, curiosity, isolation and the human urge to explore the unknown.
Although my subjects vary, my artworks are unified by the exploration of connection and emotion; whether between people and their pets, the human form or within our relationship to our environment and wider universe. Through my work, I intend to evoke both intimate emotions and sense of awe and serenity. This allows the viewer to engage with the familiar and the unknown.
